St. Columba ParishAdoration is simply keeping company with Jesus, present in the Eucharist, outside of Mass. The Blessed Sacrament is placed in the monstrance on the altar, the church is quiet, and you stay as long as you can. People bring a Bible or a rosary; many bring nothing at all.

Sign up for an hour
The Blessed Sacrament is never left alone, so we ask parishioners to commit to a regular half-hour or hour on Thursday mornings. About thirty adorers currently share the morning; we always need a few more, especially between 10:00 and 11:00. To join, email adorers@stcolumbatoronto.ca or sign the sheet at the back of the church. If you cannot make your hour, text the coordinator, Rosa Fernandes, and she will find a substitute.
What to do in adoration
- Genuflect on both knees when you arrive and leave, if you are able.
- Sit or kneel; there is no programme and no one is watching.
- Read the day's Gospel slowly, pray the rosary, or just be still.
- Speak to the Lord as you would to a friend — about what is really on your mind.
- Keep silence in the church; the narthex is the place for conversation.

Is adoration suitable for children?
Yes — for ten or fifteen minutes. Sit near the back so you can slip out. The children's liturgy team runs a short guided adoration for families on the first Thursday of each month at 9:15 AM.
