Register with the Parish

Whether you have just moved to East York, have been sitting in the same pew for years without ever filling in a form, or are returning to the Church after time away, we would love to have you registered. Registration is not a test and it costs nothing; it simply tells us who you are, how to reach you, and how we can serve your family. About 1,200 households are registered with St. Columba, and we hope yours will be next.

Why register

• Sacraments. When you ask to have a child baptised, register for First Communion or Confirmation, or plan a wedding, the first question is whether you are registered. Having your details on file already saves a step.
• Letters and certificates. Godparent and sponsor letters, and letters for Catholic school registration, can be issued only to registered, practising parishioners.
• Tax receipts. Registration lets us track your offertory envelopes, pre-authorized giving and other gifts and issue one receipt each February.
• Staying in touch. You receive the bulletin by email if you wish, notices about programs your family may be interested in, and a Christmas and Easter letter from the pastor.
• Belonging. Registration is a way of saying "this is my parish." Ministries, councils and parish groups are built from the people on the roll.

What happens after you register

1. A welcome

   Within two weeks you will receive a welcome letter from Fr. Moreau, a copy of the current bulletin, and a card with the office contacts and Mass times.

2. Envelopes, if you asked for them

   A box of numbered offertory envelopes is left for you at the office or in the vestibule rack under your name. New boxes are issued each December.

3. Pre-authorized giving, if you are interested

   Teresa Alvarez will send you the PAG form and answer questions. Monthly gifts are withdrawn on the 1st or 15th; you can change or cancel any time.

4. Your record

   Your household is entered in the parish database, which is used for envelopes, receipts and sacramental follow-up. See our Privacy Policy for how it is protected.

5. Tax receipts

   One receipt for all your recorded gifts is mailed or emailed in February. Loose cash in the collection cannot be receipted, which is why envelopes matter.

Prefer paper?

Print the registration form, fill it in, and drop it in the collection basket, through the office mail slot, or hand it to any usher. Forms are also in the rack at each entrance of the church.

Frequently asked

Is there a fee to register?

No. Registration is free, and there is no minimum donation.

I live in another parish's territory. Can I still register here?

Yes. Many parishioners come from across East York and beyond. If you later need something from your territorial parish, such as a permission for a wedding elsewhere, we will help you sort it out.

What if I have not been to church in a long time?

Then welcome back. Register, come to Mass, and if you would like to talk with a priest about picking things up again, say so on the form or see New Here.

Do I need to register before I can receive Communion?

No. Any Catholic in a state of grace may receive. Registration is about parish life and records, not about who is welcome at the altar.
